Support women in the justice system by creating transitional housing
The housing crisis is hitting these women hard. When they are released from prison, the lack of safe housing exposes them to major risks. For them, a roof over their heads is not just a place to live: it is protection, a new start, a chance to take back control of their lives.
To respond to this urgent need, the SEFQ developed M’appartenir après ma sortie (MAPS), a project unique in Quebec that offers ongoing psychosocial support from detention to the community. This year, we reached a crucial milestone: the opening of the first MAPS transitional apartments, two fully furnished units located in Montreal neighborhoods and supervised by our team. One of them specifically welcomes expectant mothers so that they can carry their pregnancies to term in safety and retain custody of their children. These apartments, combined with specialized support, reduce homelessness, violence, and recidivism. They enable women to regain stability, dignity, and independence.
Your support is essential to maintaining these life-changing transitional spaces.
