On October 14 and 15, 2026, the conference "(In)visibility of Criminalized Women: Perspectives on Contemporary Issues" will take place in Montreal.  The event is organized by the Société Elizabeth Fry du Québec (SEFQ), in collaboration with Marie Michèle Grenon, a postdoctoral researcher in the Département d'éducation et formation spécialisées at UQAM, with the support of the Département d'éducation et formation spécialisées at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and the International Centre for Comparative Criminology at the Université de Montréal (UdeM).

The event will explore various realities and contemporary issues experienced by criminalized women. It will bring together researchers, practitioners, community organizations, and women with lived experience of the criminal justice system, creating opportunities for dialogue between academic knowledge, practice-based knowledge, and experiential knowledge. A special event will also mark the 15th anniversary of the Art Entr’Elles collective. The panels will be recorded and made available at a later date on SEFQ’s YouTube channel.

Both days will take place in the Salle de la reconnaissance (DR-200) at UQAM’s Athanase-David Pavilion, located at 1430 Saint-Denis Street in Montreal.
